Should you take all your clothes off?
In general the issue of completely undressing or not will all depends on the type of massage to be administered. Often times, body work techniques are done with the client unclothed such as the Swedish massage. But you should be only undressed to a level that is comfortable to you.
The therapist will then leave you alone in the room for a while as you undress, relax on the table and get covered with a sheet or towel. You will be draped during the massage service; the practitioner will only expose the area being worked on.
What entails a full body massage therapy session?
In every massage therapy session, the client should be able to establish his/her boundaries or limitations. So make sure to discuss with the practitioner how you want the session to be like; inform her/him the part your body that requires massage.
Normally, your neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back legs and feet are worked on in a full body massage session. You are not supposed to be touched on your genitals or breasts if you’re a female.
A Swedish massage entails broad and flowing strokes that will allow your muscles to relax and calm your nervous system. The pressure will gradually on certain areas of your body as your body relax. An oil or lotion will be used to prevent too much friction to the skin. However, feel free to tell the practitioner if at some point you feel any discomfort so that he can try another approach.
An ideal massage therapy session should be between sixty to ninety minutes. This will provide you with optimal body and mind relaxation.
